Applying Underglaze to a Bisque Chicken Pot | Learning Pottery Vlog | Ep 13

Hi guys and welcome back to my channel, Blue Nose Trading. My name is Tori Solis and today I'm going to be applying underglaze to one of my chicken pots that's already been bisque fired. I have my underglaze here. I'm going to go over my space really quick, and how I set it up, and then I'm going to go ahead and start painting this chicken.

So quickly going over how I've got everything set up here. I have a cup full of brushes that I just don't use for acrylic painting anymore, so now they are my glaze brushes. I have my underglazes, I actually moved them from the original containers, the jars they were in, into these dropper glass containers. These are rated for storing chemicals so no matter what color I put in there it's going to be ok. This way I can use the dropper to measure out a certain amount into my pallet. So that I am not wasting as much when I'm pouring it, or contaminating it if I were to work straight from it.

I've got three really nice brushes that are going to kind of cross purpose, because, I'm going to wash these really well and probably still use them when I do acrylic painting. They are great for detail work, so I want to have them with me. I have a pallet. I don't usually use this kind of pallet if I'm doing acrylic painting, but today I'm going to be mixing colors, and it's sort of like a watercolor type thing, so it's fine for that.

I've got two jars of water, and some paperclips, uh, clothes pins. The clothes pins are to hold my brushes up in the water to where the metal part is not fully submerged, because it's just better for them that way. The first glass of water is to rinse off major problems, and then the second glass of water is just to rinse off lightly, so the brush is super clean and not contaminated with (dirty) water. Now, I'm going to paint this chicken.

Thanks for tuning in this week guys. I hope you enjoyed watching the process as I put some underglaze on this chicken pot. If you think this pot turned out pretty awesome go ahead and give this video a thumbs up.
